“Its the perfect mid week, mid day pick up!”
“It’s great the way we can go from intense and concentrated to daft and funny in one session. Basically it’s really good fun with a lovely group of people!”
“I have never done Contemporary Dance before. I am delighted to have an opportunity at this stage in my life, to learn it and practice it and enjoy it. You have made it completely accessible and normal for 50 + to take up such dancing”
NEW contemporary dance class for anyone aged 50 or over! Sessions began in January 2019 and run on Wednesdays in Crosspool, Sheffield. They are specifically for 50+ years and began after discussions with a group of women interested in dance who felt there were no current classes available in Sheffield that reflected their needs and represented similar ages, abilities and mobilities. This new class takes into account all the above and is open to those with experience and complete beginners!
WHAT IS CONTEMPORARY DANCE? Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Similar to ballet, contemporary dance has techniques which are strict and precise however it also stresses versatility and improvisation and has a strong focus on floor work and is mostly practised in bare feet, allowing the dancer to feel connected and grounded to the floor. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. There is no set music or rhythms, each performer, choreographer or teacher can choose music and sound appropriate to their performance or class sequence.
