A Right Royal Variety

In summer 2022, the UK was in a frenzy of cake eating, tea drinking and bunting hanging to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Our Vision Our Future, a self advocacy group in Chesterfield, worked with Hubbub Theatre company lead artists Lucy Haighton and Nikki Charlesworth to co-create a magical extravaganza: A Right Royal Variety

Focusing on the year our longest reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth 2nd took to the throne, we looked at what else happened in 1953:

  • Singing in the Rain was released at the cinema
  • Tea rationing from World War II was brought to an end
  • Mount Everest was summited by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary
  • The Sooty show first aired on BBC

Bringing together dance, singing, poetry, puppetry and a whole host of wonderful costumes, A Right Royal Variety took to the stage at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield, where OVOF performed their Platinum Jubilee celebration for friends and family.
