In 2023 Our Vision Our Future, a self advocacy group in Chesterfield, worked with Hubbub Theatre company lead artists Lucy Haighton and Nikki Charlesworth to co-create a winter wonderland production: Our Vision Our Future – A Christmas Pantomime
From September to December the group worked like busy little elves with Lucy and Nikki to write, devise, choreograph and perform their very own Xmas panto. Think super hero capes, elves popping out of presents, singing and BSL signing to Shakin’ Stevens ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ and a baddie ‘The Jargon Monster’ who wants to make christmas as unaccessible as possible! Booooo!
Whilst creating the show, Chesterfield was hit with devastating floods causing the group to relocate to a new venue for rehearsals and meaning sessions missed. But did this stop them making their show? Oh no it didn’t! The group were incredible and like the super heroes they are, powered through making an incredible show (and of course, the flood became part of the show!)
