Tattva

Tattva is a dance fusion project bringing together classical Indian dance and contemporary dance. Led by dance artists Lucy Haighton and Nisha Lall, Tattva was a collaboration commissioned by the South Yorkshire Dance Hub which engaged 18 young people aged 8-19 years to co-create a performance, later to be performed at the Crossing Boarders platform at the Barnsley Civic theatre, 2015.

For this project, Lucy and Nisha looked at the elements of the universe: earth, wind, fire, water and soul (love) and explored these ideas with the 18 young people. Over six sessions the team of 20 rehearsed the different styles, discussed the similarities and differences of the elements and created their own individual parts in the piece. Some of the participants had no previous dance experience and others went to classes every week. Whether previous experience or not, everyone was learning and meeting with new people they would not necessarily get to be with, which was wonderful to watch.
